Where in the world did July go?? I think this is the fastest summer that I can remember. We went on vacation in the early part of the month with Rick and Amy. Had a fantastic week in San Diego, zoo, cruise in the Pacific, Padres game, dinner at a fancy smancy place in La Jolla and the best Mexican food ever at Old Town Guadalahara restaurant. Oh my gosh those margaritas were fantastic. We stayed at the Sheraton on the Harbor, quite nice and saw the fire works every night from our balcony. On our return trip, we stopped in Dallas, saw Danielle, had dinner at a hole in the wall Mexican place, yummy. We then went on to Rick's, spent a week in that area. We went to Natchitoches and saw Chelsea, Ethan and Julie, brought Julie back with us for food, fun, family and lots of swimming. We got to spend time with Lauren's little ones. Wesley is so cute and Allie a beauty. One evening we went to "the farm" and saw it for the first time. Its almost 400 acres of timber and we toured most of it in a rough and tumble ride. On our way home from the farm, we stopped at, guess what, a Mexican restaurant. Love that stuff. Trying to get caught up here at home now. Quilting, made an OU wreath, etc. just passing time til football season starts later this month. Have a great weekend.

Happy 4th

Have been busy doing nothing. I did get some packing done, in fact, it is sort of at a standstill until I do some laundry. I haven't done any sewing this week, just trying to take a little break. I have lots that I need to do, but isn't going to happen. I am trying to get used to the new blog programs, I have tried bloglovin and feedly, but to me after only using Google Reader since I began to read and write blogs, I feel they both have issues, but I will have to get used to it. Once again, have a Happy and Safe 4th.

I am not starting any new projects. I finished Chelsea and Ethan's quilt on Friday and now need to order backing fabric and send it off for quilting. They should have it by their anniversary. We are going on vacation to San Diego and that area next weekend with Rick and Amy, so excited, since we haven't been on a real vacation in awhile. Rick has lots planned from sailing to a baseball game so, we are anxious to go. The family was gone all last week to Lake Texoma and came home Friday. We've had a warm few days but is cooling off now, no weather complaints so far. Hope everyone has a great week and a fabulous 4th of July!!

Things on the quilting front seem to be coming along, finally, got backing fabric so one is folded and ready to go. Now its just get one quilted at a time. Costly yes, oh my. On another front, we both went to the opthamologist this month and both of us have issues with our glasses. Back to the dr. tomorrow for JC since, he can't read from his new ones and to the tune of $800.00 +.Mine had to be reground three times but seem to be ok now, however, still having some left eye problems. Too much to go into in this little space. We are looking forward to vacation next month with Rick and Amy. More on that later. Hope you have a great week!!

I finished another quilt, wondering when or if, I will ever get another backing fabric. I ordered one for the floating charms and only after a day or two, did I find out that it was on backorder. I've never heard anymore from them and that was weeks ago. I have got to start writing down places, prices, dates, etc. of things I order. Most of the times a package comes and I never know who, where or what, etc. that it came from. Oh well, As I was typing this the UPS guy brought the backing I've been waiting for. It looks like a nice match. Hope you have a nice weekend. I plan on it.

I continue to wonder how people can be gone two weeks to a foreign country, blog everyday they are gone and post pictures and then never miss a beat, finishing multiple quilt projects, run a home and business and on and on. Somehow I have a time management problem. Two weeks ago I got new glasses, after a doctors visit, outlining problems and I might have some problems getting used to my new glasses. I kept noticing there was something wrong with my left lens, so took them back. They said they would have to be remade. Went back to get new glasses today, could not see a wink out of them. They have to be remade. Is this why I can't seem to get things done, its not me, its just that I can't focus, literally, LOL!

Had two extra folks for dinner tonight. I made taco salad and if I do say so myself, it was rather yummy. Several weeks ago while shopping away, I thought I was buying a tortilla salad kit. You know the cardboard thingies you buy,to bake and to put salad in. Well, it wasn't shells, it was little metal bowl things. I tried them and lo and behold, they are one of the top ten inventions ever made. They make perfect little taco salad holders. Time to find something I can do to help with my time management.

Not really a lot to blog about. Its getting pretty hot here, but remember no whining after all the storms we've had. We even had a little shower here, just enough to have to bring the dogs inside. Ugh! They are asleep right now so I shouldn't complain. I made the best summery (is that a real word?) dessert. You start with a boxed angel food cake mix; don't mix it like the box says but stir in a large can of crushed pineapple. That's all you do: step one: open box step two: pour it in a rather large mixing bowl step three: add the pineapple (it will foam up, don't ask me why, I don't know) Don't use a mixer just mix well with a spoon until its all together step four: bake (at 350 if in a metal pan, 325 if in glass) about 30 to 35 minutes. Its great warm, the only thing that would make it better is a dollop of whipped cream, I guess Cool Whip would do. Enjoy!

Have a great weekend!

Tornado Alley

I am sure by now you have heard about all the tornadoes, here in OK. The one that came roaring through on May 31st sent us running for the first time. After closely watching the weather all afternoon, we decided that it was time to bail out of here and head south. The Interstates and Turnpike were virtual parking lots so, we stayed on the backroads. We got as far south as Slaughterhouse, a town we had never even heard of,  and that was far enough. That darn storm had followed us all the way. Needless to say we were terrified at times. We turned around and headed back north and made it home through hail and rain by midnight. Of course, we had no power but when they had predicted that our town would be hard hit, this was a small inconvenience. There were lots of fences blown down, trees, limbs, roofs etc. damaged in our neighborhood, but thank goodness, no real damage. We had part of our fence down and one lawn chair was blown over, plus, one of the knockout rose bushes took a real beating, but otherwise, things were okay.

I finished a quilt top last week, and got another one laid out. Now just have to get motivated and get them quilted and bound. One thing slowed me down,LOL. One of the quilts has 42 blocks and I sewed two pieces of the block on wrong. It took me most of two days to rip them out and resew them. I don't know what I was thinking. I got new fabric in the mail today to make a Halloween quilt, now just need to find a pattern. One of the fat quarters has large and I do mean large, pumpkins on them. I am sure that will take some fussy cutting. I have so many things I want to do. This is definitely an addiction. I do have to get some pillow cases done this week. Fingers crossed that I don't get distracted.

I am having problems with my eyes, primarily my left one. Its blurring and I am having flashes, especially when I am tired. I went to the opthamoligist last weeks and had a thorough exam, with nothing definitely wrong. I got new glasses but so far, they aren't helping. I know I spend too much time on my laptop and when I'm not doing that I am sewing. I just hope this resolves itself soon.

Do have a great week. Summer is finally here in Oklahoma.

Sunday, May 26, 2013

Here it is a month later and I am still making excuses for not blogging. What can I say, it is much more fun to read blogs than to blog and, since I have taken up quilting, it is even worse. I continue to find new blogging buddies, and read about their adventures. As I am sure you have figured out by now, I live in Oklahoma. One week ago tomorrow, a monster touched down about 5 miles from us, and destroyed things that would never be the same, lives, homes, families, and on and on. Of course, we consider ourselves fortunate, but on the other hand feel such sadness in the loss of lives, children that will never live to grow up, Mom and a baby seeking refuge, but only thought they found it, and on and on. Once again tears here in the Heartland where people will pick themselves up, brush themselves off and begin their lives again. If one thing speaks to me, it is that we don't know how much time we have left, a minute, or 16 minutes as those children in the schools had. I don't know what I would have done if had been closer to home, close to that little red head that we live day to day to watch grow up. How does anyone ever get over that loss. I can't begin to fathom it. Much love to all of you that have lost so much.

Friday, April 26, 2013

I have been so busy sewing lately as I've told you and now its paying off. I finished another quilt this week. I started this one probably two years ago and vowed to finish it this year.

I don't know why these turned out so blurry. This is the first time I have tried to upload from Flickr, so guess I have a lot to work on.

Now only two or three projects that I need to finish.
Have a super weekend, Everyone!

What a week!

What a week its been. First, the bombing in Boston, then the devastation in West, Texas. Aren't you proud to be an American? Just thinking about those first responders in both instances couldn't help you be anything but proud. I'm so glad the Boston incidence came out as it did. Now we just wonder, what happened to cause these two young men to go so wrong.I was just so amazed at how fast this came to a conclusion. Those poor folks in Texas are still looking for survivors and those missing, how heartbreaking. I have tried to stay busy. I finished one quilt completely, you know the one I told you about last summer and I am in the process of binding a second one. Now I won't feel so bad about starting a new one. Lots of ideas running through my mind and quite a few fabulous fabrics to think about. Hope you all have a quiet, productive week in whatever endeavors you wish to begin or end.

Once again, crazy around here, supposed to get a freeze here tonight. One thing this crazy weather has done for me, I finished one quilt that I started last summer and didn't get finished due to my hand problems. It is beautiful, even if I say so myself. I would put up pictures, (note, one more excuse for not posting pictures), but if I did, the person I made it for would know. Today, I tried to quilt that I made eons ago. It is much too big and too hard to quilt on a small machine, so I am going to tie it which will work out fine. I have so many quilts in mind that I think about them when I'm trying to go to sleep at night, not a good idea. Weekend coming up, so hang in there now!

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Our area had over 10 earthquakes on Tues. I was still awake at 2am and felt the biggest one. No one in the house felt it but me. I didn't mention it at first, knowing this bunch in our house would make fun of me, having something cute to say. Then this morning, the good old newspaper had a report about it on the front page yea, I'm not nuts after all. The weather here was beautiful over the weekend. We went to the OU red/white spring football game on Sat. and it was great weather. Rumors are now that we're in for a freeze tonight. We haven't planted anything, fearing this weather. Guess we will wait another week or two, it'll be May and surely out of freeze weather. Here's hoping you all have a wonderful week. Pictures soon.

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

Ice on the trees here today, limbs down, power out in some areas, typical January weather, oh wait this is April. I know I have been talking about my quilting, well, I decided I had too many projects going on, so needed to finish some. I recently made a beautiful, black, red and white with touches of yellow fairly large quilt and decided it was high time to quilt it. The pattern is basically, squares and strips so I decided stitch in the ditch would be fine. I made a sample piece to practice on and got my quilt ready. The sample stitches were great so I was on my way, wwwaaahhhh, it didn't stitch right. I then preceded to work on the machine for about three hours making myself crazier by the minute. I gave up and called the recommended sewing machine shop and will take it in tomorrow. Let's hope this 2 year old sewing machine doesn't cost me a fortune to fix. That's how my week is going. Hope yours is better.

Once again weird weather, its been in the 30's and raining for the last two days. I am in no way complaining as we need this so badly. The weather service says it is helping the water table remarkably well and may do away with our drought classification. We did have a really pretty Easter weekend which allowed the kids to play outside in shorts. The Durbins, along with the triplet family came for lunch, as did Trish. I have mostly spent the last week making hexies for a quilt. Today I did break away and do a block of the month, It was paper piecing and I did fairly well, only had to frog it twice. Lately, I have begun to enjoy paper piecing more and more. I especially enjoy them when the demensions are given for the blocks. Hope you all have a great week! <

Supposed to be near 80 degrees today and snow on Friday. Enough said!!

Monday, March 18, 2013

March,as usual, came in like a lion. We have had some really crazy weather. One day, its 80, the next day it flurries. Guess the whole country is experiencing this kind of stuff. We have had lots of cloudy rainy days so that helps the water table which they say is still low. Just hope we don't have an awful summer like we've had the last two. I had my six month checkup last week and for the first time in my life, my blood pressure was low, even had to lower my medication. I guess all the quilting I've been doing has helped mellow me.I did get a quilt sent off last week to be quilted, now just have to make the matching shams, but since I've started working with hexies, I can't stop. They are addictive, oh well, I was warned. Hope everyone has a great week, Spring is on its way!!

Friday, March 8, 2013

Quite a busy day. I made gumbo for our youngest granddaughter. This is her birthday week and she always wants me to make gumbo. Debra made her cute cupcakes and with a houseful of family, it was pretty festive. I went to get my hair done this morning so, after some months, I am a redhead again. I have had two respiratory infections and strep throat since Christmas, so my hair was certainly not a priority. Now that we can quit whining about flu, strep, etc., we can now whine about our allergies which come along with the wind "blowing across the plains" here in Oklahoma. Sure hope you all have a lovely weekend, supposed to rain here, and we aren't complaining.

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

It's March, I can't believe it. Another fairly mild winter for us here in the Midwest. It's been really crazy, some days 70 degrees and then the next day it will snow. The weathermen just can't seem to get it right. I haven't been doing anything of notice, mainly working on my quilts. I even got one mailed to the long arm quilter today. I can't wait to get it back. I started it in the late summer but when I had my hand manipulation and problems, the quilt went on the back burner. Now, I'm ahead of the game and have a gift that will be ready for Christmas this year. I also, have the blocks made for a quilt for one of our Granddaughters. It was to be a wedding gift in Sept. Maybe, I'll get it to her by their first anniversary. It's so hard to finish projects when new ones crop up all the time. The new spring fabrics are out and so sweet. I have to show restraint, as I haven't even finished the first quilt I ever made. I wish now that when I started to quilt that I had started a diary with fabric names and pictures. I have no idea how many I have made in the time since I started quilting a few years ago. Hope you have a great rest of the week!!

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

Lots of winter weather was supposed to hit us, but thankfully it passed us by, however, we did get a lot of moisture through rain, sleet and mix. We will take any precip. to help out with our drought.
It's been an exciting weekend and last few days. We went out to the Philharmonic on Friday night and to dinner. It was the first time we'd been out in don't know when. We had dinner at the Texas Roadhouse, and, of course, I had chicken fried steak. The Phil. was a tribute to Cole Porter. It was delightful!

More Snow

We woke up this morning to more snow. It turned into a dismal, dreary, dark day. I really shouldn't complain because we need the rain or etc. so badly. We, here in the midwest, have had drought conditions for two years now. This is certainly helping our water table. I spent most of the day working on my quilting. This was the first block in a new all heart quilt I am starting. It has very small pieces and was really difficult to do. I had alot of ripping out to do, which I'm sure added to my calling the day dismal. And as I predicted, there was no school today. Quinn played in and around all day, always was one of his superheros. The snow melted some today but anything left on the streets is freezing over by now, so we'll wait and see what that does to the school bells tomorrow. TGIF, we're going to try and go out to the Symphony tomorrow night, will see tomorrow how things work out. Have a great Friday!

Snow

Guess what I'm back again, however, still haven't gotten the camera out. This happens to be Deb's picture out of her window. Mine is upstairs and looks nothing like this. We've had another gloomy, cold, snowy, rainy, etc. day here in the heartland.

Guess this is kind of pitiful looking at what some of you folks have had. All of this is supposed to freeze over tonight so for us weenies here in Okla., it will probably be schools closed etc. tomorrow. You know we can take 60 mph winds on an almost  daily basis, but give us a little snow and we're paralized.
Have a great last half of the week.

Busy Day

I spent my day putting up a few Valentines Day decorations and dragging out a few four leaf clovers. I never did really get anything up for V Day, had the materials to make a wreath but never felt like it. It was a really puny month in this house. Everyone was sick.  So today, I made a St. Patrick's Day wreath. Of course, I never thought to take pictures. I think I deliberately don't get out my camera because I'm so bad at it. I just have a point and shoot but it stills bugs me. I will try to take a picture tomorrow and post it. We'll see. Now that I'm feeling better, I have been back at my quilting so that has kept me out of trouble and off the streets. I WILL take pictures and show what
I've been working on. Until then, have a great evening!

Another post, fooled you, huh!

Sorry folks, but I have successfully deleted two posts that I was writing this evening. Oh well, they weren't much anyway.
This is our newest great grandbaby, Wesley Stafford Webb, born in August. He is a week old in this photo. That brings our great total to 5, however, I somehow feel it won't stay at 5 for very long. We haven't gotten to see Wes since Oct. and we hear he is doing all sorts of tricks now. Poor baby, just spent several days in the hospital with respiratory problems, but is home now and on the mend.
Get ready for a great week everyone, I feel it coming on!!

Well, I have got to get back into the swing of this. I just deleted a post I had been working on. As I was saying, today has been a big day, off to Walgreens to get our weekly pharmacy fix and from there to a great lunch at Wendys, what a day. So much socializing, don't think I can stand it. The other errand we needed to accomplish was to get gasoline, however, the wind was sweeping cross the plain at 60 mph. which was dropping the wind chill to COLD!
Bet you didn't think I'd make it back. Well, fooled you, didn't I!! Had a rather pleasant day, if you can call 55 degrees and winds that take your head off pleasant. But, after all, it is the winds who come sweepin cross the plains, OKLAHOMA, oh wait, I got carried away for a minute or two. Had a great trip to Walgreens to set up and pick up new prescrips. You know when you reach the ripe old age of __ , your big social trip of the week is to your pharmacy of choice. From there, it was off to Wendys for a magnificent lunch. I had a baked potato and water and Hubs had a fish sandwich and coke. What could be better!
