Mellow Monday

These are the only two yellow flowers we have in our yard.  The lily was here when we bought the house.  The first year it had about 3 lilies on it, last year 13 and this year over 20.  It's so beautiful.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a Mellow Monday

New or Old

When my hubs and I first married, we didn't have 2 nickels to rub together.  We bought an entire house or rather apartment of furniture for $100. We had saved for what seemed ages to get that money together.  We got a bed, chest of drawers, a red (oh it was an awful color) couch, with matching club chair, two end tables with matching coffee table, all ingeniusly made from formica.  Along with these gems, we got a dining  table of indescriminate wood with 4 out of this world chairs.  All of this was used of course, bought from one of my Mom's neighbors who was moving.  Oh, my goodness what that $100 bought and that was 55 years ago this month.

Years passed and these items were scratched, torn, spotted with who knows what, and I thought we would never be able to afford nice things.  Through the years we were handed down miscellaneous items  from our parents and family members.  It seemed we would never be able to have new things.  I dreamed about nice shiny new tables and chairs, new modern sofas  etc.

Four children in five years later, we weren't  any nearer to buying  something new.  When we finally were able to buy new things, I loved the shiny brand new look and I still do.  I look now at lovely painted items and then someone distresses them.  I am sorry, I just don't get it.  I lived with distress for so many years and now see people distressing on purpose. What's that all about?? I know some of you young ones are laughing and distressing away.  That's okay, maybe someday you can have something shiny and new too.

We just bought this, now please don't hate me.

Guess we should have gotten along with this for a few more years.
.

Hope you all enjoy this little tongue in cheek post.  I don't wish you stress if you want distress!

Heidi Hitler

This is the infamous Heidi, known to all who come and go to this house and family.  Heidi was a gift from our twin daughters after we lost our little 3 yr. old doxie to back failure.  She is a long haired weiner dog and fierce as they come.  When they bought her, the breeder said she was the only female in a litter of eight and bossed the litter.  We see that  in play almost every day.  She bosses our entire household.  She is quick to let you know what she wants and what she doesn't want.  She loves people and would easily go home with the Fed-Ex guy, the UPS guy or anyone who happened down the street.  She is 8 pounds of pure dynamite and once you meet her, you gotta love her.  If only my behind was as cute as hers, I'd have movie stars and producers knockin on our door.  Here she is "with attitude!"

I found Heidi napping in Quinn's Elmo chair this morning (Mon.) and just had to add it.  She is something else, cute.

Have a great week.

Thanks so much for dropping by and please come back again soon, I'd love it if you left a comment.

I just love looking at everyone's pink posts.  I am linking back to Bevery's Pink Saturday.
http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/

I make hair bows for little girls, so for some reason (Allie) I have lots of pink ribbon in my stash.

I know, I know, I just published these but they are just so cute and pink, I had to show them to you again.
A few pretty pink flowers can't hurt anything either!
How about a glass of cold pink lemonade on this hot summer day.
How about a sweet little pink cookie to go along with that lemonade.
Don't forget to wear your pink flip flops and your cool summer sundress and have a great pink Saturday.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR STOPPING BY AND PLEASE COME BACK SOON!

Still lagged

As you know, we are newly back from a vacation with all of our family in Destin.  Since we didn't fly there and I am still sort of dazzed, I'll just call it lagged instead of jet lag.

I took these shots of the surrounding homes from our third floor.  Ours house  had eight bedrooms, 7 bathrooms and a huge living, dining, kitchen area.  The first floor had a laundry and another sitting/game area with a pool table and all sorts of video games.  There were several fridges and an ice machine so, all in all, we couldn't have asked for much more.  There were 22 of us enjoying all of this.

The last day that we were there, we celebrated Quinn's 4th birthday.  He had a Toy Story Party with all the trimmings.
That is Maddie, a friends little girl on the right.  Could she be anymore bored?
This didn't end the partying.  On June 11th  55 years before, I married the love of my life, my best friend, and father to our four wonderful children, eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild with twin great grands due in January.  The kids surprised us with a champagne toast that evening.  What a fun trip with lots more to follow, so just get ready.  This is only part I.

Allie in Wonderland

I know it is time for your Allie fix.  Here are pictures of her in Grandmama's hat.  She just loved wearing it and knew she looked so cute.  In the other pictures she is wearing her Barbie dress up dress.  Cute!

As you can see, lovely water, no oil, no tar balls, just beautiful sandy beach.  Let's all say a prayer that it stays that way.  This is our girls with hubs and kids.

As a red haired Irish person, you probably won't catch me on the beach.
I did go down a couple of days for an hour but, this white skin couldn't take
much more.  It's not that I don't want to go, it's that they don't make a strong
enough sunscreen for me not to get burned.

I loved the pool at the house and you might find me there most days or nights.

Go to the beach

Here we are in Florida.  I know some of you are anticipating beach vacations here in Florida.  From the horses mouth, the beaches south of Pensacola are as beautiful as ever.  We have been at the beach everyday this week and no oil sighting.  There have been tar balls on Pensacola beach but nothing excessive.

As for fishing, six of our group did a charter fishing trip yesterday.  They caught their limit in red snapper and a few mackeral about two miles out in the gulf.  So, don't cancel your trip just yet.

We will be back in Shreveport Sat. night.  I may get some pictures edited by early next week.  We will see.  In the meantime, have a great weekend.

Vacation

Yes friends, it is almost time for us to be off on vacation. We're leaving in the a.m. so, we will be out of area for several days. I will be taking lots of pictures to just bore you to death so get ready. We just can't wait. It will probably be Sunday before I can get back on my computer. I can never get online at son's house as he has so many controls on his. He is able to do patient charts etc. at home (as some of you know he is a cardiologist) so, it is impossible for us to breach the confidential barriers, which is fine with me. I can wait and so you must.

I hope you all have a wonderful vacation, can't wait to tell you about mine. Stay safe until we meet again.
